03/12/22

John Stonestreet

Maria Baer

Is the invasion of Ukraine a sign of the end times? What are the end times and how are Christians called to respond? John and Maria unpack the Ukraine crisis and how both Christians and the secular world are interpreting the events as an omen of the end of the age.

Maria then asks John for clarity on the new Florida bill that protects young children from being exposed to sexual ideology in grade school. John explains the landscape of the culture and how and why many are responding the way they are.

To close, John and Maria discuss a pair of recent commentaries and how Christians are called to this cultural moment.

The Christians Who Think the Ukraine Invasion Means Jesus Is Returning to Earth

The day after Russia started dropping missiles on Ukraine, pastor Greg Laurie took to Facebook with a message for his flock. To much of the world, current events may look like the unhinged machinations of a megalomaniacal authoritarian intent on worldwide disruption, but to Christians of a certain ilk, Laurie argued that the war could be viewed as something else entirely: a sign of the second coming of Christ. “Is there any prophetic significance to what is happening in Ukraine right now?” the heading of the post posed. “The answer is…Yes!”

DeSantis Says Florida Doesn’t Legislate Based ‘on the Musings of Woke Corporations’ after Disney CEO Condemns LGBT Ed Bill

DeSantis’s comments come one day after he fielded a concerned call from Disney CEO Bob Chapek and company executives over the bill, which prohibits gender-ideology and sexual-orientation curriculum for kindergartners through third-graders in the state. The bill passed the state legislature on Tuesday. DeSantis is expected to sign the bill into law imminently.

Chapek said he called DeSantis on Wednesday morning to “express our disappointment and concern that if the legislation becomes law, it could be used to unfairly target gay, lesbian, non-binary, and transgender kids and families,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. He said DeSantis agreed to a follow-up conversation and was “very open” to hearing him out.

On Thursday, DeSantis said there is “zero” chance he will change his position on prohibiting the instruction of “transgenderism in kindergarten classrooms.”

Trigger Warning Lists Aren’t Helpful

Brandeis students placed the term “trigger warning” on their list of triggering words. Their reason, and I quote, was that “‘Warning’ can signify that something is imminent or guaranteed to happen, which may cause additional stress about the content to be covered.”

Is It Biblical to Honor Our Nation?

Nationalism becomes idolatry whenever love of nation devolves into an excessive or uncritical devotion, is confused with the Kingdom of God, justifies evil, or engages in a partiality that treats citizens of other nations as less worthy of love or justice or charity.

What Church is Really Like

The advantage to being a Christian is seeing reality as it really is. It makes perfect sense that the people willing to accept the Bible as the true account of the world would be the people most able to live at peace in the world.
