The Point: Abortion Ban Passes House

10/5/17

A partial victory for life in Congress. For the Colson Center, I’m John Stonestreet with The Point.

On Tuesday, the House of Representatives passed a bill that would outlaw abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

Now the bill heads to the Senate.

When Republicans captured both houses of Congress and the White House, pro-lifers could imagine some significant advances, like the de-funding of Planned Parenthood. That hasn’t happened. In fact, not much else has happened either, until Tuesday.

It’s not a perfect bill, as it still allows abortions of innocent children in cases of rape or incest. But it is a step in the right direction and will save many lives.

In the end, as Alabama Rep. Martha Roby said on the House floor, “So often we get caught up in the policies of this issue and we forget that these are babies, for goodness sake. They feel pain and we need to protect them.”

Amen. So friends, it’s up to the Senate. And it’s up to you to make your voice heard to them. You can contact your Senator by visiting Senate.gov. That’s Senate.gov.
