The Point: Fake and Dangerous News

John Stonestreet

Does CNN stand for “Conspiracy News Network?” For the Colson Center, I’m John Stonestreet with The Point.

I’ve talked before about the Southern Poverty Law Center’s list of so-called “hate-groups,” which lumps Christian ministries like Alliance Defending Freedom, Family Research Council, and the conservative American College of Pediatrics in with neo-Nazis and the KKK, simply for opposing the LGBT agenda.

Last week CNN republished the SPLC’s list, along with a map showing where each “hate group” was located.

This is ridiculous and dangerous. Ridiculous because many of the so-called “hate groups” on this list hold positions that most leading liberal politicians, including President Obama and Hillary Clinton, held just a few years ago. And ADF just won a case before the U.S. Supreme Court.

And it’s dangerous because, back in 2013, someone took that list seriously enough to go to FRC’s headquarters in order to shoot as many people as possible.

Labeling those with opposing views “hate groups” has consequences. CNN has not only damaged its credibility, but it’s putting Americans in danger.
