The Point

The Point: Sinking, Sinking

How low can we go? Let’s not find out. I’ve said it before, and we have to keep saying it: A culture that doesn’t value children doesn’t value its future. That’s bad news given the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s finding that America’s birth rate is at an all-time low. The CDC reports there were about 60 births per 1,000 women aged 15 to 44 in 2017. That’s three percent lower than the year before. Folks, in 1980, there were five American workers for every retiree. By 2030, there will only be two. It’s socially catastrophic and economically unsustainable. Thankfully there is something we can do. As a church, we help re-create a culture where children are seen as gifts of God and not as just another lifestyle choice—items to either check off or keep off of our bucket list. Children are a blessing, and God’s command to be fruitful hasn’t been rescinded. For more on faith and culture, come to BreakPoint.org.
