The Point: Advent

11/1/17

John Stonestreet

It’s the most wonderful time of the year… For the Colson Center, I’m John Stonestreet with The Point.

Well, it’s official… the 24 hour non-stop Christmas music stations are live, stores are bombarding us with round after round of savings on gadgets and gifts, and we’re all beginning to feel the hustle and bustle of the season.

But historically, the Church did not recognize this season as Christmas–not yet. And if you need help keeping the focus of you and your family where it needs to be this time of year, might I recommend honoring the Church calendar, instead of the cultural one?

This Sunday marks the beginning of Advent, a season of preparation, repentance, and reflection on the promises made by God to His people, promises He fulfilled in the “fullness of time” when He sent the Messiah, Immanuel, God with Us. Ultimately, these promises will be finally fulfilled at Christ’s second coming.

So don’t be rushed. Take time for Advent. Reflecting on God’s promises in Christ is a terrific way to be ready for the Christmas season, when it’s time.
