The Point: All the Lonely People

The most connected generation is the most lonely. A recent survey from health insurance company Cigna revealed that most Americans regularly experience loneliness and a lack of meaningful connection with others. It’s especially true of younger generations despite being highly "connected" through technology and social media. Among the concerns of this pandemic of loneliness is the correlation between loneliness and poor physical health. According to NPR, loneliness has been associated with "a higher risk of coronary heart disease and stroke" as well as "premature mortality.” You see, we are creatures made in the image of a Triune God. Thus it only makes sense that our minds and bodies can't handle being alone. Superficial social media community is never going to be enough for those who were made for face-to-face communion with God and each other. Marriage, deep friendship, and the bond of the Christian family—these things are irreplaceable. So, please, reach out and befriend someone. It’s good for them, it’s good for you, and for both of you: it’s good for your health.
