According to Britain’s Telegraph, the Church of England has decided not to allow same-sex marriages by its clergy. The church had been under pressure for some time to conform to current cultural trends, with some of that pressure coming from a sitting member of the government and an influential bishop. Nonetheless, while certain details still need to be ironed out, “The Church said it will not change its existing doctrine, that Holy Matrimony ‘is between one man and one woman for life.’” 

This isn’t as ringing an endorsement of biblical truth as it may sound. Not only will the church apologize to the LGBTQI+ community, but it will also allow “prayers of thanksgiving, dedication and for God’s blessing for same-sex couples” at ceremonies allowed in churches. In other words, they’ll act as if a same-sex relationship is not sinful. 

If the Church of England truly wants to bless those inside and outside its churches, it will need to speak the truth about human nature and relationships, even if it’s not popular.
