Sisterhood is being redefined. For the Colson Center for Christian Worldview, I’m John Stonestreet with The Point.
While our new president isn’t pushing gender ideology like the last one did, it’s hard to stop this train in its tracks. Too many institutions that receive federal funding continue to misapply Title IX to include gender identity as well as sex.
This week I got an email from one of our Colson Fellows, who told me that her sorority is under pressure by Panhellenic groups and college administrators to admit anyone who identifies as a woman, whether they are or not.
Using the non-discrimination rules of Title IX, these groups want to abolish any distinction between male and female, which is at the foundation of Greek life.
But Title IX was designed to recognize the need for and protect programs and opportunities on campus for women. Now it’s being used to erase any recognition that women exist!
We need some clarification from Washington about the role of Title IX. But we also need college administrators, faculty, and students who say they care for women to prove it.
