Helen Alvaré: Children’s Interests and the Law
Today we present John Stonestreet’s interview with Helen Alvaré, Professor of Law at the Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University, where she teaches Family Law, Law and Religion, and Property Law.
Professor Alvaré discusses how laws surrounding marriage and child rearing were traditionally aimed at protecting children—ensuring that they were raised in sound families for their benefit and the benefit of society as a whole.
With the arrival of the sexual revolution, the separation of sex, marriage, and procreation, we now see that the law is primarily (and perversely) concerned with protecting the sexual freedom of adults, with horrible consequences for all.
