Defenders of marriage and the family are often accused of “idolizing” marriage and family. After all, we are told, Jesus wasn’t married, and one can serve God as much in singleness as in marriage.

Both of those things are, of course, true. And churches should see all followers of Christ, married or single, as called by God in His service. But the Church’s failures to do that don’t change that marriage was put into the world at creation, that the story of Scripture begins and ends with a wedding, that marriage is the relationship God uses to describe His relationship with His people, and that in our culture, marriage and family are under direct assault.

This month, with a gift of any amount to the Colson Center, receive The Story of the Family, a book of essays by G.K. Chesterton compiled by the scholar Dale Ahlquist. You’ll also receive access to a video series on the book by Ahlquist. Go to colsoncenter.org/October.
