Once again, Christians ran toward the plague. For the Colson Center for Christian Worldview, I’m John Stonestreet with The Point.

This Thursday across the country is a one-night showing of a remarkable film by Samaritan’s Purse called “Facing Darkness.” It’s the gripping story of the Christian missionaries, doctors and nurses who faced down the terrifying Ebola outbreak in West Africa in 2014.

As I said on BreakPoint today, while Ebola was claiming thousands of African lives, the world looked away—until two Christian missionaries contracted the disease. Soon, money, drugs, and personnel poured into West Africa. Samaritan’s Purse helped fund a new hospital in Liberia, and research dollars funded an Ebola vaccine, which progressed to clinical trials last year.

This tale is reminiscent of how Christians ran toward the plague in the Roman Empire in the 3^rd century, ministering sacrificially. Their courage was a powerful witness that, as Rodney Stark has described, propelled the growth of Christianity.
