The Point: William Kimmel Opens Hearts

Maybe this baby can help fix our hearts. For the Colson Center for Christian Worldview, I’m John Stonestreet with The Point.

Like many, I was deeply touched by the story told last week by Jimmy Kimmel on his late-night talk show. I watched doctors perform CPR to save my newly born first child, so Kimmel’s description of the rushed surgery to save his newborn son’s life made me remember the hopelessness of that moment 12 years ago.

Tears flowed as Kimmel reported that young William is recovering well from surgery, and then he showed the audience pictures.

Now many were bothered by Kimmel’s use of his son’s story to argue for Obamacare. But while I have my thoughts on that too, I couldn’t shake a far more important inconsistency in our country. Namely, how many would defend the so-called right of parents to abort an unborn baby with a similar defect, had it been discovered in utero.

I grieve the tragedy of a culture that will go to such lengths to save a wanted baby, but turn around and exterminate an unwanted one.

Lord have mercy.
