Since 2017, two male high school athletes have captured 15 Connecticut state titles in girls track and field.
By allowing boys to race girls, the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference is not only denying biological reality, it is denying female athletes opportunities to achieve goals and earn college scholarships, for which they have worked for years.
For example, runner Selina Soule, “after months of training for the 55-meter dash,” placed behind the boy she was forced to compete against and finished one spot away from qualifying for the New England regional championships. By losing, she was also unable to compete in front of college scouts who would be in attendance.
Selina has enlisted the Alliance Defending Freedom to file a Title IX complaint with the Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights. Title IX was created to ensure that young women receive the same educational and athletic opportunities as young men—apparently the CIAC seems to have forgotten that.
