Giving up on family isn’t wise … or cheap.

According to the United Nations Population Fund, forty percent of U.S. births are to either cohabiting or single mothers. That’s a ten-percent increase since 1970. Having unmarried parents is now mainstream. Simply put, our society has given up on the idea of the traditional family.

Decades of research show how costly this mistake is. Children of unmarried parents, on average, do worse in school, have poorer emotional and physical health, are more likely to commit crimes, and are more likely to have children out of wedlock themselves.

The sexual revolution decoupled sex from marriage, and the whole time insisted ‘the kids will be fine.’ Well, they’re not. This may be the clearest example in our lifetime of how bad ideas having victims.  We’re three generations into this terrible experiment and it’s clear—married parents are not optional when it comes to the wellbeing of children. We can recommit to God’s design, or continue paying a terrible price.
