According to NPR, most people with voice assistants like Siri or Alexa choose female voices. Fewer select male-sounding options.
Recently, a group of researchers unveiled “Q,” a voice assistant alternative they call the “first genderless voice.” In a short audio clip on YouTube, “Q” introduces itself. “Think of me like Siri or Alexa,” it says, “but neither male nor female. I’m created for a future where we are no longer defined by gender but rather by how we define ourselves.”
Well, let me state the obvious: “Q” is genderless. Digital personal assistants like Alexa and Siri only sound male or female. They don’t have bodies or chromosomes. But there will never be a future where humans are no longer defined as male or female because we do have bodies and chromosomes.
The other thing about humans is we have a sin nature that, as Q helpfully pointed out, always leads us to define ourselves rather than embrace who we are created to be.
