Recently the Catholic Vancouver News told of three young moms who, after discovering the joy and chaos of having children, decided to help other women who might not have the support they need.
Renae Regehr was recovering from her son’s birth a few years ago when she started thinking of all the women who had to do it alone. Overwhelmed, she and two friends, all Christians, started an organization called Care for Women. They train mentors, who then “adopt” pregnant women in their neighborhoods, visiting them in the hospital, providing meals when they go home, cleaning their houses, and sometimes just visiting with them and listening to them.
In other words, Ms. Regehr and her friends not only identified a problem, the did something about it. It’s always a beautiful thing when Christians combine creativity and energy with obedience to that “love-thy-neighbor-as-thyself” commandment.
As Jesus said, “Go and do likewise.”
