The Point: The Manhattan Declaration

The year 2019 is the ten-year anniversary of a statement that drew the line for Christians on three central issues: life, marriage, and religious liberty. The most important statement in the Manhattan Declaration is the last one: that we would “fully and ungrudgingly render to Caesar what is Caesar’s.” But under “no circumstances” could we “render to Caesar what is God's.” The Manhattan Declaration has proven remarkably prophetic. In each area—life, marriage, and religious liberty—the reach of the state has grown dramatically. Just think of lawmakers high fiving abortion in New York, the White House lit up in rainbow colors after the Obergefell decision, and believers forced to choose between their faith and their livelihood. Two new resources can help you wrestle with what Christian conviction looks like today. Our latest online symposium and a new book, “What Belongs to God, What Belongs to Caesar.” It include reflections by Robert George, Joni Eareckson Tada, and other thought leaders. Find both at BreakPoint.org.
