South Bend Abortionist. Bizarre details continue to emerge regarding 79-year-old former abortionist Ulrich “George” Klopfer. He died last month at age 79. After his death, his family found the remains of more than 2000 aborted babies in the garage of his Illinois home. Klopfer had stored them in sealed plastic bags filled with a chemical used to preserve biological material. Each bag was carefully labeled and dated from 2000 to 2002. According to WORLD, documentary filmmaker Mark Archer interviewed Klopfer in 2018 for an upcoming film. Archer said the abortionist’s behavior “corrupted him. He became deranged.” The Indiana Medical Licensing Board suspended Klopfer’s medical license in 2016. Among his infractions: He violated the state’s 18-hour waiting period for abortions, he failed to report a 10-year-old girl’s rape by her uncle, and he performed abortions on two 13-year-old girls.
Tragic Circumstances. An 87-year-old Florida woman told police she killed her 30-year-old disabled grandson because she was afraid no one would be able to care for him when she died. Lillian Parks of Bradenton said she gave her grandson a fatal dose of drugs. Police arrested Parks but have not yet filed charges against her. The grandmother said her grandson’s father was dead, and the family was estranged from his mother.
Vudu Comes Through. Walmart recently entered the streaming service with its platform Vudu. Now, it’s offering more family-friendly options on the service. Vudu has more than 24,000 movies and shows on its platform and has long allowed customers to block R-rated material. But now Vudu users can mute or skip inappropriate material on PG and PG-13 programs and movies. “We’ve heard from customers that they’re concerned about what their family can browse and watch on Vudu,” Jeremy Verba, vice president and general manager of Vudu, told Variety.
Hong Kong Protest Update. We’ve written elsewhere about the Christian roots of the protests in Hong Kong. Mindy Belz of WORLD reminds us that the movement is primarily driven by young people – but not exclusively so. She writes, “They are still singing in the streets, but the Chinese territory is on edge as protests swell leading up to Tuesday [today], the 70th anniversary of communist China’s founding. That said, we should continue to pray for the Hong Kong protesters, especially since the backlash has taken a troubling turn. Vice News and other outlets are reporting that police there are now using live ammunition to quell protests, and at least one student protester has been shot.
